Kosher Liquor Information and Facts

Brandy & Cognac All brandy and cognac requires certification since both are made from wine.

Beer Domestic - all domestic (made in USA) beers, including dark beer, are acceptable unless there is a flavor additive. Check labels for any mention of flavors added.

Many breweries are coming out with specialty brews that have additives; just because you recognize the name of the brewer, don't assume that all varieties are acceptable - check the label.

Imported - all imported Ales, Lagers and Pilsners are acceptable.

All Irish Stouts are acceptable.

All German dark beers are acceptable.

Some examples of Kosher (provided that there is no flavoring added) Canadian brands are:

Bourbon Straight Bourbon (Sour Mash is a variety of Bourbon) is acceptable.

Some examples of Bourbons are:

Bookers Maker's Mark Basil Hayden Old Crow Bakers Old Granddad Knob Creek Old Weller Jack Daniel's Wild Turkey Jim Beam

Gin Gin with no extra flavors added is acceptable. (Note: Sloe Gin is a different liqueur and requires certification.)

Liqueurs Liqueurs generally have lower alcohol content and are, by definition, flavored drinks. Sometimes a liqueur is referred to as an aperitif or cordial. The general rule is that all liqueurs require certification. Some brands that are certified do not carry the certification on the label, and are listed below.

Certified kosher even without a kosher symbol on the product label:

Amaretto Disaronno

Peter Cherry Herring
