| | | Superieur wines are only made by Barkan in exceptional vintages from the variety that excelled in that vintage. In 1998 they chose to make a Merlot Superieur. The Merlot comes from three of their best plots in the Lower Galilee, growing on steep volcanic slopes. Manually picked, the grapes were fermented and macerated for two weeks in rotary fermentors. The wine was aged for 16 months in French oak barriques, of which more than half were new. The wine was blended with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Golan Hights, to add structure and weight. The resulting wine is very deeply coloured, full-bodied with very rich, dark berry fruit. Despite considerable tannins, the wine has a velvety mouthfeel and is a pleasure to sip. The wine will be at its best in two years time. EXTREMELY LIMITED (NOT-Mevushal)

| | | The Barkan Superieur Cabernet Sauvignon represents the very best of the exceptional harvest of 2000. The wine was then aged for 20 months in special barrels, which were chosen to enhance the final taste of this extraordinary wine. This wine is in limited production, only 1200 cases were made. Open this wine, pour it in a glass and let it breathe for thirty minutes. Wow, what a wine! (NOT-Mevushal)

| Barkan wines are a Middle Eastern delight. A long time favorite of international travelers, these wines have been more widely produced and distributed so that you don't have to travel across the world in order to enjoy these wines. Barkan wines have received accolades from the most esteemed wine competitions in the world, such as the Barkan Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which won a gold medal at the Vinexpo exhibition held in Bordeaux, France. This winery, now the second largest in the country, is increasing its sophistication every year and now produces interesting wines in both the "Barkan" and "Reserved" series. Their semi dry Emerald Riesling is often the best wine of this varietal produced in the country and their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are worth sampling. |
