Wine HarvestYou Will Not Pick The Grapes
Queen Anne Wine & Spirit Emporium, in the personae of Kevin Roche and David Schwartz would like to embark on what promises to be a very exciting and interesting project. We want to involve the kosher wine drinking community in the wine making process. This would be a hands-on experience. You would not be a passive observer or spectator.

The wine we make would be under rabbinic supervision from crushing through bottling. It would not be mevushal. We will probably be using Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The quality of the wine depends primarily on the quality of the grapes. The grapes we will be using will be of a class that should yield a wine of the caliber of Segal's Reserve Cabernet.

Before we can begin the project we must ascertain the level of interest and commitment to the project in the community.
Wine BarrelsYou Won't Have To Move the Barrels

We estimate that a participatory share will cost $475.00 which will need to be  paid for at the beginning of this process. The bottle yield per barrel will be 240 bottles. Each participant would get 1/10 of a barrel. This would yield a participant 24 bottles of wine. The estimated cost per bottle would be slightly less than $20.00. We hope to make 3 barrels of wine at the inaugural wine making.
The wine would barrel age for 9 to 10 months and we would then bottle it. The wine, at that moment, can be enjoyed. Additionally the wine will continue to age in bottle, in your own home, for another 3 or more years.  Sampling the wine periodically during this time and noting the improvement is an enjoyable part of the experience.

Besides the monetary commitment, you would be expected to come to the winery 4 times. Each visit would last approximately 2 hours. The winery is located in Wallinton, NJ, which is southeast of Passaic, approximately 15 to 20 minutes from Teaneck.

Before we can commit to this process and reserve space and time and purchase grapes, we must know how many are interested in participating. If there is not enough interest we will not proceed.
